Create a monochrome outfit with sandals or flip flops

Monochrome a definition - Paintings, clothing, design, photographs (or sandals and flip flops!) in one colour or shades of one colour.
A hot topic at this year’s London Fashion week, a theme of the New York fashion awards and a clear trend for summer 2011, monochrome is here to stay.
With the likes of Courtney Cox, Michelle Obama, Halle Berry and Victoria Beckham all choosing the simple, stylish elegance offered by monochrome outfits, its a must have look. What’s great is that putting together a monochrome look can make great use of the colours in your existing wardrobe.
From the classic black and white to more subtle hues putting together a monochrome ensemble is a simple affair – but choose wisely.
Here are a few tips.
Wear contrasting tones of the same colours:
Try mixing together varying shades of one colour to create an outfit. For example, wear burgundy with a cherry red, chocolate brown with bronze or grey with a silver. In this way you will create a fantastic monochromatic style. However be sure to select shades which aren’t too close as it is the contrast which creates the look.
The classic black and white:
You can never go wrong wearing all black and especially all white is a great look for the summer with some flip flops, both work well for any occasion. This look works well with sandals in a different colour, so when going all-white, sandals in a metallic colour like gold or silver work fantastically well. With a black outfit flip flops in a metallic or skin tone look great.
Mix it up using a splash of bright colour:
This is a trick just about everyone has tried – using a little splash of red when wearing black and white. For this summer why not try something a little different and break up a monochrome outfit with a bright purple, aqua blue or metallic. Be careful though, these little splashes only work if they are kept to a minimum, don’t get carried away, its best to concentrate on accessories like flip flops or sandals, hair bands, bangles and lippy.
Don’t be afraid to mix up the textures:
Another neat trick if you want to stick with one shade is to work with textures. Different weaves, cottons, suede, lace and crochet can all be used to great effect on different layers.
